How San Antonio segregated its schools

The struggles that continue to plague Edgewood ISD are rooted in prejudice. Throughout the 20th century, those prejudices became public policy that would allocate services unevenly across the city, creating intractable inequities still visible in the city’s school districts.

This is the second installment in a series of essays on the legacy of a court battle about San Antonio’s segregated schools that went all the way to the Supreme Court and determined that American children have no constitutional right to an education. Read the opening essay here.
