With a biology and graphic design background, I tend to notice details both in nature and the human-designed world. Noticing the little wonders all around me often turns into praise and gratitude.
At the Lodge, I saw—
Small ferns peeking out from the rocks,
a bright line of symmetry along the river’s edge
Living, soft grey-blue toile pattern of floral shadows on a paper map
Neatly hand-painted letters on the library doors
Thoughtful blankets that considered
the living room ambiance and
accommodated those of us who
need an extra layer
The sun through the roof in the
Great Hall warming the room and
bringing out colors in turn as it
moved across the chimney stones
My first visit to the Lodge was an
occasion for God to let me know
I was seen.
I arrived when it was a little too
dark to read the signs. There was
another car far ahead but close
enough to follow when it seemed
like the road had ended. I was
free to experience the river with
curiosity and awe.
This place has a gathering of delights
and an abundance of what is
restorative and comforting to me.
Once, as I was leaving my room in
the pouring rain wondering how
I would make it to the dining hall
without the umbrella I left in the
car, someone happened to pass by
and offered to share theirs.
God sees and is a God of detail. God
notices us noticing the little things
or caring for others in small acts of
thoughtfulness. Each time we do,
we are loving and reflecting Him.
